Safely Updating Your Website

Keeping your WordPress core, plugins, and themes up to date is vital for security and performance. However, updates should always be handled with care.

⚠️ Rule #1: Backup First!

Before running any updates, ensure you have a fresh backup of your site. If an update causes a conflict, a backup allows us to restore your site in seconds.

Step-by-Step Update Process

  • 1. Access the Update Screen: In your dashboard, go to Dashboard > Updates.
  • 2. Update Plugins: Select your plugins and click Update Plugins. It is best to update these one at a time to ensure no errors occur.
  • 3. Update Themes: Scroll down to the Themes section and update any active or parent themes.
  • 4. WordPress Core: If a new version of WordPress is available, click Update to version X.X.

The "Visual Check": After every update, open your website in a new private/incognito window to make sure the layout still looks correct.

Running into an error? If you see a "Maintenance Mode" message that won't go away, please contact support immediately.
